Konstantin Grcic defines function in human terms, combining formal rigor with considerable mental acuity and humor. Each of his products is characterized by careful research into the history of design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Known for pared-down pieces, Grcic is often called a minimalist but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity and clean lines.
The KGID office is located in the center of Munich in southern Germany. Konstantin Grcic employs 6 product designers and 1 personal assistant. The studio is specialized in various areas of design, ranging from furniture design to commissioned works like architectural projects. Languages spoken are German, English, French, Italian and Spanish.
Herzog & de Meuron Architects commissioned Konstantin Grcic to collaborate on their project for the new Parrish Art Museum on Long Island, NY, USA. The project will entail the design of all furniture and furnishings for the museum.
Konstantin is currently developing a cantilever chair for the Italian manufacturer Plank, in collaboration with the chemical company BASF. The chair is called MYTO and made from a new technical plastic material called - ULTRADUR High Speed. As initiator of the project - BASF presented the chair for the first time at the K2007 Plastics Fair. The commercial launch of MYTO took place at the Milan Furniture Exhibition in 2008.
