Miki Astori

He was born in Milan 1965. After completing his studies as an architect in 1991, he started working with Antonia Astori as an interior designer. In 1992 he moved to Paris where he began collaborating with Philippe Starck. He took part in several projects for Kartell, Flos, Driade, with a focus on the development of HiFi components for the Thomson Group. In 1995 he established his own studio in Milan, mainly operating in the fields of furniture design, interior design and architecture. In the same year he contributes to the creation of the Atlantide collection for Driade. Since then, he has been constantly collaborating with Driade, dealing with design, graphics and interior architecture. Among his works, it’s worth mentioning the design for the new offices of the Driade production department in Piacenza. In 1997 he spent a long period travelling to South Asia in search of new suppliers which could provide the best manufacturing techniques for his creations. He visited Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, China and Vietnam and developed a new family of products balancing ancient traditions and oriental suggestions with typically western industrials methods and high standards of quality. Among raw materials, he prefers natural fibres like rattan, wood and iron which he usually combines and uses together so to reach simple and clearly designed structures. He develops system solutions in the area of kitchen programmes and storage systems and he enlarges his activities while working on some shop designs and stands.
